Room: 1209

Saturday: in 3 hours you will learn a complete choreography to Um Kulthoum’s famous classic “Ansak.”  Technique plus choreography breakdown.
“Ansak” is one of Um Kulthoum’s timeless classics.  In Arabic “Ansak” means “forget you,” but in this song, “ansak” is asked as a question.  The answer is never.  This is an emotional piece that speaks across generations and cultures.  In choreographing this song, I translated the lyrics into movement.  Hence you will learn a lot of hand gestures that correspond to the meaning of the words.  The translation of the lyrics will be provided for your reference.

Sunday: Learn Saidi Oriental and Saidi Cane tips and tricks
In 3 hours you will learn Saidi Oriental combinations to incorporate into the Saidi sections of Oriental music.  Also learn new Mohamed Shahin-style tips and tricks for cane work.  Use them in your choreographies or be inspired to create your own combinations. Please bring your own cane as none will be available to borrow.
